Biography Information:
► AlmaSchnell
AlmaSchnell's background hails of 25 years of experience as director, choreographer, flamenco, tap, and Mexican folk dance teacher, as well as a professional dancer. Alma Schnell studied flamenco and Mexican folk dance inGuadalajara, Mexico. By the age of 16 she was professionally dancing with Jose Luis Esparza in Guadalajara, Mexico. Her extensive study of many forms of dance with famous dancers such as: Jose Luis Esparza, Luisa Triana, Ketty Clavijo, Mario Maya in flamenco; Ana Rosa Navarro and Zamarripa in Mexican Folk Dance; Glenda Folk, Charles Goddertz, in Tap; led her to become the director of Alma Performing Arts, a multicultural dance studio in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Her directional and choreographical credits include: numerous musical theater productions: Grease, West Side Story, Seven Brothers for Seven Brides, and Ni tan Pobre Angelito. She directed The Danza y Arte Academy, Santa Anita Dance Company in Guadalajara for 12 years and worked with Arizona Dance Theatre for 5 years. Some of her many performances include: Phoenix Symphony Hall (Where in the World is Carmen San Diego), Phoenix Celebration 2000, Grand Canyon University, Mexican Cultural Center, and Televisa de Mexico. Alma has worked for many years with numerous corporate cultural diversity groups in the valley such American West Airlines, Society of Hispanic Engineers, Boeing, Best Western, Motorola, Free Scale, Paradise Valley Community College, Scottsdale Community College, etc. Through her company Alma has been involved in community service with several organizations such as Friends of the Orphans, De Colores, Brazos Abiertos, and American Cancer Society. Also, Alma has worked with the City of Phoenix developing a program to make Hispanic children proud of their heritage. Her additional strength is in architectural design having an architectural degree and a Master of Environmental Planning from Arizona State University. |
